Sapple
Sapple puts the classic Windows speech voices on iPhone, iPad and Mac as real system voices: SAM, Mike and Mary, the SAPI 4 voices, TruVoice, Anna, the Windows 10 and 11 voices and the Windows 11 natural voices. They work with VoiceOver, Spoken Content and any app that uses the system voices, all on the device and offline.
The source code is on GitHub: github.com/Quinton1110/Sapple.
About the voices in these downloads
These ready to install apps include voice data. That data is not part of Sapple's open code, and it belongs to its owners:
- Microsoft: SAM, Mike, Mary and the other SAPI 4 and SAPI 5 voices, Anna, and David, Zira, Mark, Hazel, George, Susan, Catherine, James, Matilda, Linda, Richard, Eva and Sarah.
- Microsoft: the natural voices Jenny, Aria, Guy, Sonia, Ryan, Neerja and Prabhat, and the Microsoft Speech SDK they run on.
- Centigram Communications: the TruVoice tables. That technology later passed to Lernout & Hauspie, then ScanSoft, which became Nuance. Where the rights sit today is not established.
It is included for personal use. It is not covered by Sapple's licence, and it will be removed if a rights holder asks.

- Open the zip file to unpack Sapple.
- Move Sapple into your Applications folder.
- Open Sapple once, so macOS picks up the voices.
- Leave it in Applications. macOS finds the voices through the app, so moving or deleting it removes them.
Picking the voices
On iPhone and iPad, go to Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Speech, Voice, or Settings, Accessibility, Spoken Content, Voices, and look under English. You can also add them to the VoiceOver rotor from the same Speech screen.
On the Mac, they show up in VoiceOver Utility under Speech, and in System Settings, Accessibility, Spoken Content, System voice.
